Pat served in the US Navy as an electrician. After his honorable discharge, Pat went to work in as electrician in a shipyard at Hampton Roads. Later, landing in Roanoke, VA, Pat joined the Norfolk Southern as an electrician at the Shaffers Crossing Locomotive Shop. Pat soon distinguished himself and was promoted to a mechanical supervisor’s role. Pat was transferred to the Roanoke Locomotive shop where he became immersed in the world of GE diesel engines, both the 7FDL and Evolution Series.
While Pat has significant knowledge of Progress Rail locomotives, Pat is regarded as a subject matter expert on Wabtec (GE) locomotives. Pat has in depth knowledge of both the 7FDL and Evolution Series GE engines and the control systems of both DC and AC propulsion locomotives. Pat rose to the level of Assistant Shop Manager and was later named Manager of Locomotive Reliability for Norfolk Southern.
