Don’s career Class I railroad spanned two railroads and 42 years. Don was a first line supervisor in car and locomotive maintenance. Rising through the ranks of general foreman, assistant shop manager, shop superintendent and master mechanic, Don spent the first 21 years in his career in shops and the second half on the mechanical staff of Norfolk Southern. Don was responsible for locomotive maintenance for over 16 years and retired as vice president - mechanical, overseeing a fleet of 4000 locomotives and 70,000 cars. Maintenance was performed at eight locomotive shops and 36 car repair locations across the 22-state network.
Don is a lifetime member of the Locomotive Maintenance Officers Association (LMOA) where he has presented technical papers. Recently, Don has written articles for Railway Age and Trains Magazine. He is also a regular speaker at the annual Railway Finance Seminar in Palm Springs, California.
